Introduction

It is the year 1861 and the country is going to war. The problem is that they are not fighting other nations but they are fighting amongst themselves. IT’S A CIVIL WAR! There were five leading men that played an intricate role in the civil war. These men are Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis. They were not the only leaders in the war; however, they are the most recognized.

The Task

There will be five members in each group. You must decide yourselves which leader that you will characterize in a presentation. Your choices are Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis.   All leaders must be represented in the presentation. Two members cannot study the same leader.

Each member will gather data and answer the following questions on the person they have selected.

·        What is the name of your leader?

·        Whenwas he born? When did he die?

·        Which side of  the war was he on?

·        What was his role in the war?

·        What is he most famous for regarding the war?

·        What were some of the problems that he encounters?

·        Which side would you be on? Why?

 

 

As a group you will combine all of your information into a PowerPoint presentation.

The Process

  •  Your five member team will meet to appoint leaders.
  • Each team member will visit their leader’s internet link to answer the questions.

  • The team will then create a power point. The power point will include the following slides.

Conclusion

From this activity you will have used the internet to learn more about the five most recognized leader of the Civil War. You will have collaborated with each the members in the group to design and present a power point. So now you should have developed a better understanding of the Civil War, the leaders of the war, and the causes and events of the war.

b.   Discuss how the issues of states' rights and slavery increased tensions between the North and South.
c.   Identify major battles and campaigns:
Fort Sumter, Gettysburg, the Atlanta Campaign, Sherman’s March to the Sea, and Appomattox Court House.
d.   Describe the roles of Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Jefferson Davis, and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson.
e.   Describe the effects of war on the North and South.
