Introduction | Task | Process | Evaluation | Conclusion | Resources
You and your partners are scientists investigating volcanoes. Your jobs
as scientists are to investigate the reasons why volcanoes erupt and where they
are located. You should gather all of your equipment necessary for you to
investigate a volcano.
Your assignment is to discover what causes a
volcano to erupt, what are the effects of the volcano, and where do you find
them. You will also be making your own volcano.
Have fun and be careful!

The Task
You will be creating a model of a volcano using materials
that you gather. You will present as a group informing the class of the
information that you have gathered on volcanoes. Be sure to answer the
following questions:
·
What causes the volcanoes
to erupt?
·
What are the effects of the
eruptions?
·
Where are volcanoes found?
·
Define a crater
·
Label the parts of a
volcano(your choice of how to display)
You will be using the internet to search for
your answers.
One
student will research and investigate the causes and effects of a volcanic
eruption.
A second student will find and label the parts
of a volcano.
The
third student can investigate what materials will be needed and the steps
needed to create a volcano model.

The Process
1. First you'll
choose your job to complete.
2. You will answer the following questions
List the reasons that cause
a volcano to erupt.
How often does a volcano
erupt?
Are there different types
of volcanoes?
List 3 names of volcanoes.
What instruments do scientists
use to study volcanoes?
3. Decide what will be used to label the parts of a volcano. The student
assigned to this activity will complete it and present it to class during the
presentation.
4. All students will gather materials needed to create a model of the
volcano and bring to class. This group will complete the model and display
during the presentation.
5. The class will be tested on this material next week.
