Gifts and Donations Policy

The Anna E. Kresge Memorial Library at Covenant College welcomes gifts of materials that improve the quality of its collections. However, only those items donated to the Library that meet the criteria for selection as described in the Library’s Collection Development Policy will be added to its holdings. Suitable materials must be in good condition without excessive underlining, highlighting, or writing on margins or end pages. Other criteria apply to rare books.

Once a completed Gifts and Donations Form has been received by the Library, all donated materials (including those items deemed inappropriate for inclusion) become the property of the Anna E. Kresge Memorial Library at Covenant College. The Director of Library Services has the authority to determine the retention, location, and disposition of all gift materials.

Gifts of materials may be acknowledged by the Director of Library Services but will not be appraised. Donors must set a value on a gift for which they intend to take a tax deduction. Library staff may provide donors with a total count of given items, but not specific title listings.

Materials given to the Anna E. Kresge Memorial Library but not accepted for inclusion into its collections will be disposed of at the discretion of the Director of Library Services. Options for disposal include: offering the item to faculty; placing the item in a Library Sale; trading the item at a used book store; shipping the item to a third party such as a bookseller or other educational institution; placing the item in a recycle container.

Gifts of money designated for use by the Anna E. Kresge Memorial Library should be directed to the Office for Advancement at Covenant College.
