Circulation

Covenant Traditional Undergraduate Students

Kresge Memorial Library Materials

  • Users must present a valid Covenant ID to check out any eligible item – no card, no check out
  • Maximum of 25 items may be checked out at any one time
  • All materials may be checked out except:
    • Reference materials
    • Maps
    • Periodicals
    • Archival materials
    • Microforms
    • Special Collection materials
  • Normal circulation period is 21 days (DVDs = 7 days)
  • A grace period of an additional 7 days is offered for materials with a 21 day circulation period (3 days for DVDs)
  • Most items (DVDs excluded) may be renewed for one additional 21 day period
  • No circulation of items during semester breaks without the approval of the Circulation Specialist
  • No fines for overdue Kresge Memorial Library materials
  • For materials with a 21 day circulation period, if an item has not been returned on time, the user will receive an email overdue notice on the 22nd day
  • On the 29th day (at the end of the grace period), if the item has still not been returned, the user will receive an email notice that his borrowing privileges in the library have been suspended – no check-out will be allowed until the overdue item(s) is returned
  • For DVDs, if the item is overdue the user will receive an email overdue notice on the 8th day and a suspension notice on the 12th day
  • All circulated items are subject to recall after the 10th day (4th day for DVDs)
  • No overdue or suspension notices will be sent to users with recalled items until the full circulation and grace periods have passed
  • Lost or damaged items will result in the user owing replacement charges + a $5.00/item processing fee
  • Lost /damaged fees will be assessed at the end of each semester via email
  • Users will have 7 days from the email notice posting to pay fees
  • Failure to return materials and/or pay outstanding fees will result in a hold being placed on the user’s Banner account

General Information

  • User accounts will be closed upon graduation or departure from the school
  • Users leaving school during a semester must have signed clearance from the Library
  • The Library accepts only cash or personal checks ($5.00 or more) as payment for fines/fees

Covenant Faculty (Current Full-Time and Adjunct)

  • Same terms as Traditional Undergraduate Students with these exceptions:
    • Normal circulation period is one semester (DVDs = 14 days)
    • If an item is checked out within 2 weeks of the end of the fall semester, the circulation period extends to the end of the spring semester
    • All materials must be returned by the last day of classes in spring semester
    • If items are checked out during the summer break they are due 7 days before the start of fall semester classes (DVDs retain the 14 day circulation period)
    • Overdue email notices will be sent out on the day following the last day of classes in fall and spring semesters, and the 6th day before the beginning of fall semester classes
    • Items overdue more than 7 days will generate an email notice of immediate user account suspension – no borrowing privileges will be allowed until the items are returned
    • No renewals allowed unless approved by the Circulation Specialist
    • Unlimited number of interlibrary loan requests

Covenant Staff (Current Full-Time or Part-Time)

  • Same terms as Traditional Undergraduate Students with this exception:
    • No access to Reserve Collection materials

Covenant Graduate Students

  • Same terms as Traditional Undergraduate Students with these exceptions:
    • Normal circulation period is one semester (DVDs = 7 days)
    • No renewals allowed unless approved by the Circulation Specialist
    • Circulation restrictions during semester breaks do not apply

Covenant Nontraditional Undergraduate Students (Quest Program, BSECE)

  • Same terms as Traditional Undergraduate Students with these exceptions:
    • Photo ID required
    • Circulation restrictions during semester breaks do not apply

Covenant Extended Family (Area Alumni, Spouses & Children of Current Employees, Retired Employees Living in the Area)

  • Same terms as Traditional Undergraduate Students with these exceptions:
    • Photo ID required
    • Maximum of 5 items may be checked out at any one time
    • No renewals allowed unless approved by the Circulation Specialist
    • Circulation restrictions during semester breaks do not apply
    • No access to Reserve Collection materials
    • Users 16 and older must have their own account – children under 16 must use their parents’ account(s) with the parent present
    • Failure to return items or pay fines/fees will result in the user’s account being terminated

Community Users (Residents of Hamilton, Walker, Dade or Catoosa Counties, Students from Area Colleges with Reciprocal Borrowing Agreements)

  • Same terms as Traditional Undergraduate Students with these exceptions:
    • Annual fee of $10.00/person for borrowing privileges
    • Photo ID required
    • Maximum of 3 items may be checked out at any one time
    • No renewals allowed unless approved by the Circulation Specialist
    • Circulation restrictions during semester breaks do not apply
    • No interlibrary loan services
    • No access to Reserve Collection materials
    • User’s account will be closed on the anniversary date of the account unless renewed
    • Users 16 and older must have their own account – children under 16 must use their parents’ account(s) with the parent present
    • Failure to return items or pay fines/fees will result in the user’s account being terminated
